Global Film Critics Simply Cannot Ignore the Lead Presence of Ms Nora Aunor in #Taklub
(as Brillante Film Earns Mixed Reactions)
The Hollywood Reporter: "Philippine cinema grand dame Nora Aunor headlines Brillante Mendoza’s ensemble drama about survivors grieving over loved ones lost during the devastating typhoon Haiyan...it’s the overall controlled performances from the cast – ranging from veterans like Aunor and Diaz, to younger faces like Rivera and Santos – which propels the film."

Confidante Reveals Alleged Reason #Superstar Nora Aunor Cancelled Cannes
"Aunor’s confidante claimed it isn’t the first time “pinabayaan nila kami.” He said that when they went to Venice in 2012 for the 69th Venice International Film Festival (where “Thy Womb” won the Bisato D’Oro, La Navicella or Venezia Cinema prize and the P. Nazareno Taddei Award Special Mention) “nagsama-sama sila duon, pero kami, andun lang kami sa isang hotel, wala man lang nag-a-asikaso sa amin.”
Aunor didn’t say anything about it, said Rendez, and she aims to do the same with the whole Cannes issue. If anything, the veteran actress is said to be waiting for Mendoza or anyone from his camp to reach out to her. “I’m hoping they could work it out…” Rendez said."
#StarValueAnalysis : Given that
a) the Cannes Film Festival belongs to THE three (3) most prestigious, influential and important film festivals in the world (along with Berlin and Venice film festivals,
b) TAKLUB is an official entry in competition,
c) Nora Aunor is the lead actor in Taklub
d) several government agencies are named producers of the film project mainly represented by Senator Loren Legarda ,
this incident is admittedly nothing short of embarrassing for the Philippine delegation, in particular, and the Philippines as a country participant in general.
Humiliating, yes but we say bitterly necessary if only for the inevitable consequence that this incident brings, highlighting the sore lack of much deserved respect and support provided to even globally acclaimed and accomplished Filipino artists in the Philippines, like Ms Aunor by the local film industry entities and officials, the national government and the audience in general.
And yet again, it takes a NORA AUNOR to bring this to light.
Remember, Ms Nora Aunor stayed and shot #TAKLUB right in the heart of still devastated Tacloban with nary a qualm just like she stayed and shot #ThyWomb in rebel infested territory, again with full professionalism and unexpected artistic commitment and genius.
Now that the project is done and it's "time to party" so to speak, it is conscientious for everyone involved in the project to give the proper treatment this genius artist deserves (and of course we mean the artist Aunor).
So we still say, #MABUHAY #NoraAunor!
